Join us on Sunday May 4th for a Water Ceremony and Rally for the River at 11 am at Binette Park in Old Town, ME. This will be an opportunity to be in ceremony with the River, call out the injustice of Juniper Ridge Landfill, and rally for solutions.

Juniper Ridge Landfill (JRL) has been a source of environmental injustice for decades – disproportionately impacting the Penobscot Nation and local residents. Juniper Ridge Landfill is owned by the state of Maine, and operated by the billion dollar waste company Casella, who has a track record of regulatory and environmental infractions across the region.

While Juniper Ridge is already massive, Casella is applying to expand JRL to bury an additional 11.9 million cubic yards of waste—that’s equivalent to 8.6 empire state buildings— adding another 11 years to the mega landfill. Old Town and Alton residents, the Penobscot Nation, environmental organizations, and legislators have questioned Casella’s ability to manage JRL, and have serious concerns about the environmental health threats and additional PFAS chemicals being released into the River that further expansion of the landfill poses.
